Data controller

Overview
Pricyfy is a price comparison service that helps users identify products and compare retailer offers. This policy explains what data we process, why, how long we keep it, and the legal basis under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What data we process
- Search queries and scanned EAN/UPC codes — logged when you search or scan, to return results and improve the service.
- Uploaded product photos — saved on our server when you use photo identification. We first read visible text on the image on our servers (OCR). If that is not enough, the image may be sent to Google Gemini as a fallback. Gemini processes the image under Google's terms and privacy policy.
- Activity logs — we record how you use the app: searches, barcode scans, camera opens, photo uploads, retailer link clicks, product pages viewed, language changes, and similar events. Logs include a pseudonymous session ID, IP address, browser type, country/language, timestamps, and event details.
- Clicked retailer links — logged to operate affiliate links and understand which offers are useful.
- Technical data — IP address, approximate region, browser type, and request metadata, kept for security and service operation.
- Local preferences — your language choice, cookie consent, and a pseudonymous session ID are stored in your browser (local storage), not on our servers except when linked to server-side activity logs.
Photo identification and Gemini
When you photograph a product, the image is stored on our servers. We first run local text recognition (OCR) on the image. Only when that is not confident enough, the image is transmitted to Google's Gemini API for automated product identification. We send only what is needed (the image, OCR hints, and a short market hint). Google may process data in the United States or other countries. Do not upload photos containing identifiable people or sensitive personal information.
Legal basis
We rely on legitimate interest to operate, secure, and improve the service (search, identification, activity logging, fraud prevention), and on your consent for any non-essential cookies and affiliate/analytics tracking. You can withdraw consent at any time via the cookie settings link in the footer.
Affiliate tracking
The Pricyfy service uses affiliate links from partner networks. If you click a retailer link, the affiliate network or retailer may process click and conversion data under their own privacy policies. This tracking only runs after you have accepted non-essential cookies.
Sharing and transfers
We share data with processors needed to run the service: our hosting provider, Google (Gemini) (photo identification fallback when OCR is insufficient), and affiliate networks for click attribution. Some providers may process data outside the EU/EEA under appropriate safeguards (e.g. Standard Contractual Clauses).
Retention
We keep activity logs and uploaded photos on our servers for as long as needed to operate the service, prevent abuse, and respond to support or legal requests. Product photos are processed on our servers with OCR first. When needed, they are also sent to Google Gemini, which handles data under Google's terms and retention policies. You can request deletion of data we hold by contacting hello@pricyfy.com.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You may also lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY). To exercise any right, contact hello@pricyfy.com.
